Olympic Gold and Silver for Wendy & Isabell Werth

august 4. 2024

It has been an absolutely fantastic Paris Olympics for Wendy & Isabell Werth. The two have only been a together since January this year, and their development leading up to the Olympics has been impressive, culminating in a gold and a silver medal in Paris.

Already in the first part of the team competition, they showed that they were in top form. They scored 79.363% in the Grand Prix, which meant they placed second in their group and secured a spot directly in the individual final. After the last German rider had competed, it was clear that the German team had taken the lead before the team competition final, which turned out to be very exciting.

The team competition final was the Grand Prix Special, where Wendy & Isabell again delivered an absolutely fantastic test and achieved the third-highest score of the competition with 79.894%, which is also the pair's personal best in a Grand Prix Special. The decision now lay in the hands of the last two riders from Denmark and Germany, and after two nerve-wracking rides, it became a reality that Germany had beaten Denmark by 0.121% and were Olympic Team Champions in Dressage.

A few days later, it was time for the individual competition, where 18 riders had qualified to show their best technical and artistic skills in the Grand Prix Freestyle.
To the tones of “Ohh Wendy - Well you came and you gave without taking...”, Wendy and Isabell danced in full harmony and with great power, moving several spectators to tears. The fantastic performance also impressed the judges, who awarded Wendy & Isabell 89.614% - a new personal best in Freestyle, and a performance so formidable that it was the second-highest score of the day, making the Olympic silver medal win a reality.

Big congratulations to Wendy & Isabell for the formidable performance – it is beyond anything we had dreamed of and hoped for. And big congratulations to the entire team around them, as well as Madeleine Winter-Schulze and Bolette Wandt, and not least to the skilled breeder who produced Wendy, Kurt Gosmer.
