The Danish Warmblood Society has changed the licensing terms for the 3-year-old stallions, which means that the stallions were presented today under saddle on the first day instead of the last day. This 1-day test now replaces the 10-day observation test followed by the licensing on Sunday. The 1-day test is mandatory but can be postponed until the second licensing in April.

Helgstrand brought 18 3-year-old stallions to the Danish licensing and all of them performed and behaved so well under saddle and we can't wait to see the stallions unfold during the licensing in the next few days. If the stallions get approved on Sunday, they will receive 1 year of breeding approval in Dansh Warmblood.

The Danish breed society Danish Warmblood has recently introduced a new performance index with the aim of breeding horses with the highest level of performance. The index gives you an understanding of the stallion’s ability to pass on its performance to its offspring and can be used by breeders as a tool when selecting the right stallion for one’s mare.

The index now includes the genetic correlations, which gives a more accurate picture of the horse's hereditary ability in performance. Positive genetic correlations normally translate into good performance under the right circumstances.

The index shows how well the offspring will manage in the sport compared to other stallions. A high index is equivalent to a good ability to pass on performance.

At Helgstrand we do our utmost to select the best stallions for our stallion collection and every year we make necessary changes with the aim of always offering the best selection. In top of the new index of Danish Warmblood, we find several current or former Helgstrand stallions lead by Revolution! In the lead with an index of 160 as a result of 110 offspring being analyzed and with an 0.9 certainty. This ranks Revolution among the best 2.5% stallions in Danish Warmblood.

UV Equestrian 211222 00146 low

In the past years, we have been challenged with dangerous viruses and bacteria more than ever before. For example, the outbreak of the Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) in our industry in 2021 –viruses, which can be dangerous for horses and sometimes even life-threatening. Through years of research, the Danish-based company UV Medico has developed a UV light based on the Far UV-C technology, which has made a breakthrough in the health industry reducing viruses and bacteria up to 99,9%. Now, this proven technology has been introduced to the equine industry under the name UV Equestrian with the ability to fight dangerous viruses and bacteria, while remaining harmless to horses and humans.

- Viruses and bacteria, and the illnesses they cause to our horses, affect the global equine industry more than ever before and continue to be a threat to the wellbeing of our horses – all the way from smaller barns to professional sales stables, vet practices, show grounds, etc. But with this new technology, we face a breakthrough, and we can control the spread of viruses that causes illness and worst-case scenario the risk of losing horses, tells the CEO of Global Equestrian Group Andreas Helgstrand.

The UV-C technology was originally developed in the 1930’s and later improved into Far-UVC (200-230nm). The Far-UVC was used at 222nm against the coronavirus at the global COVID-19 pandemic with great success. Studies quickly showed that this technology is just as effective against other kind of viruses and bacteria as well.

Now, this new UV-light solution provides the necessary safety. Combining Far UV-C light at a very low wavelength (222 nm) with unique patented filter technology, the lamps of UV Equestrian ensure effective yet harmless disinfection for both humans and animals in occupied spaces and prevent the spreading of viruses and bacteria.

- UV light has been the talk of the town for many years. But the combination of Far UV-C light at the low wavelength of 222 nm makes it a safe and harmless way to deactivate viruses and pathogens within a few minutes. The technology is a result of years of research and more importantly, it has been used in ambulances, hospitals, OR rooms and other facilities for a long time already with great success, tells the Sales Manager of UV Equestrian, Martin Zimmer, who has many years of experience in the equine industry.

The globalization of the equine industry contributes to a more rapid spread of viruses and bacteria. Spreading not only from horse to horse but also through equipment and people. Spreading diseases is always a risk and can be costly and even more high-risk during events and activities with many horses and people gathered. This changes with the new Far UVC-light from UV Equestrian.

Leida Collins-Strijk is originally from the Netherlands, where she runs a successful sales stable with her husband, internationally acknowledged Olympic Eventing rider Tim Collins. However, the couple has always dreamed of establishing a sales stable in Spain, which has experienced remarkable development in recent years and the demand for top dressage horses has increased significantly.

- Many people associate Spain with the PRE Horses which are known and respected worldwide. But as we travel around the country and talk to riders, we have noticed an increased need for good horses. The area has huge potential and by working closely with Andreas we can bring in a variety of good dressage horses which are important to help even more riders achieve success in sport, explains Leida Collins-Strijk, owner of Leida Dressage.

In addition to a growing interest in dressage in general, Spain attracts many people each year who end up settling permanently in the country. And to meet the different needs, horses are imported from countries like Denmark and Germany every year. The number of stables has increased significantly, the popularity of competitions is growing, and every year there are more and more CDI competitions in Spain on the agenda. This, combined with the nice weather, makes it a perfect place to be all year round.

- The basic idea is that we want to meet customers where they are - to make it as easy for them as possible. Leida is a well-known and respected person in addition to having a huge network, and I think she's the perfect person to take on the job. Spain has seen an impressive influx over the years. We are also receiving increasing requests for horses, which has led us to collaborate with Leida and Tim on a sales stable near Malaga, which we see as having huge potential, states Andreas Helgstrand.

- It's our way of life - we live and breathe horses. And we want to help develop the sport even more in this area. The first horses from Helgstrand have arrived and we are ready to welcome clients, says Leida.

Leida Collins-Strijk has been a member of the Dutch national team for several years, has won numerous Grand Prix’s around the world and has ridden famous stallions such as Lancet, Welcome, Welt Hit II, Kennedy and Floret As. Alongside her own career, she has trained riders worldwide who have won medals at the Pan American and the Asian Games and trained junior, young riders and U25 riders from the Dutch national team.

Leida Dressage is situated in Southern Spain near Sotogrande, just an hour's drive from Malaga. The stable is called DOS LUNAS, better known as: "el paraiso de la Doma", the dressage paradise in Spain. More info can be found at http://leidadressage.com

On Tuesday January 17th, Ludger Beerbaum Stables and Helgstrand Dressage ApS welcomed more than 2,000 guests for the yearly Open House at our facilities in Wellington.

With a mix of dressage and show jumping horses, clinics, presentations, and unique vendors of the Global Equestrian Group, we truly hope that everyone enjoyed a spectacular afternoon and evening.

A special thanks to the partners of the group for flying in to join our open house.

- I'm very happy to be back in Wellington to such a crowd of people coming in. We try to open our doors. I think most of the farms they are very private around here, but we try to open up, so everyone can see how we work our horses. We want people to stop by and maybe find their next horse, tells CEO of Global Equestrian Group and founder of Helgstrand Dressage, Andreas Helgstrand.
